Vaccines are an effective way to protect your dog against harmful diseases.
In order to give your furry friends a good start in life you should have them vaccinated. Vaccinations are simple and cost effective ways to provide great care for your pet. At our hospital we offer both core and non-core vaccines for dogs. Core vaccines are especially important as the diseases spread more easily and they can become fatal. Non-core vaccines are just as important but are not necessary for all dogs. We recommend non-core vaccines based on your pet’s lifestyle, age and risk factors.
The core vaccines that your pet needs are:
Non-core vaccines that may be recommended are:
Puppies should begin vaccination when they are 6 to 8-weeks-old. The antibodies that are transferred in the mother’s milk are ineffective once the puppy is weaned off. The vaccinations should be carried out every three weeks until they are 4-months-old. At exactly one year after the puppy series, adult dogs should get their first round of booster shots. Our team recommends giving booster shots based on how long each shot is effective for. To find out if your puppy or dog is due for their vaccines call us at 613-433-3100.
Vaccines are the first line of defense you give your furry friends against illnesses and disease. There are some minor side effects to vaccines but without them your pets could suffer even more or succumb to certain illnesses.
