Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

The most effective form of good health you can give your pet is to prevent illnesses and conditions from an early age. At Pinnacle Animal Hospital we encourage owners to enroll their kittens in a wellness program that offers maximum protection. At the core of kitten wellness is their vaccinations. Vaccines play a major role in protecting them from diseases.

When should my cat and kitten be vaccinated?

Kittens generally begin vaccination at 6-weeks-old and continue until they are 16-weeks old. After a year has passed adult cats should get their booster shots. This timeframe was made for indoor cats and kittens. If your pet spends a lot of time outdoors the timeline may be different. What vaccines should my cat or kitten be given?

Kittens should be vaccinated against:

• Feline Leukemia Virus at 8 to 9 weeks old
• Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia (FVRCP) at 8 to 9 weeks old
• Rabies at 14 to 16 weeks old

Your cat should regularly receive a vaccine for the following conditions all throughout their life:

• Feline Distemper
• Rabies
• Feline Leukemia

Are vaccines harmful for my cat or kitten?

Vaccines are relatively safe for pets. Some pets do experience side effects such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea or loss of appetite but these symptoms disappear within 48 hours. If you are concerned about your feline pal’s response to a vaccine, contact our team for instructions.
